EPR Packaging – Lessons learned from Canada

Seminar Description: 

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging is a relatively new issue for food retailers and producers in the United States, with Maine becoming the first state to adopt in 2021 (and quickly joined by California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington). But to our North, Canada has been in the process of legislating and implementing packaging EPR for over a decade. To date, five provinces have implemented it: British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Québec. 

In this digital seminar, FMI will be joined by Alain Brandon, Vice President, Government Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility for Loblaw Companies. He will discuss the EPR Packaging experience in Canada, including the lessons he has learned during his decade implementing various packaging EPR programs and key takeaways for U.S. retailers as they face state legislation and regulation on this topic.
